CFDA Fashion Victims

The Council of Fashion Designers of America held their Fashion Awards Monday night.  You would assume, given the event, that most attending would turn out in their finest and most fashion forward.  Unfortunately, you are wrong.  The event was filled with fashion casualties!  I don't know what that says about American fashion industry or the fashion industry in general.  I am just going to hope it was an off night and things will go back to normal at the next event.

What was even more bizarre was that some of the designers themselves were the worst offenders.  Maybe they just are too busy designing to find great outfits of their own?

Diane Von Furstenberg in her own design.  She looks happy but the dress itself is kind of shapeless and I find the print odd for an evening event.
Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman of Marchesa wear their own label.  Usually their creations are gorgeous, feminine and perfect for the red carpet.  I can see where they were trying to go in the design of both these dresses, but they just miss the mark.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen of the Row.    Both sisters have always had unique style and make no apologies for  this.  I do love the blue of Mary Kate's dress but the purse and shoes just do not go well with it.  Ashley just looks strange in her oversized yellow jacket over a black gown with a train.

Rachel Roy in her own design.  I know shirt and trench dresses are hot for the summer, but the shiny fabric, plus the ruffles, plus the colour of this shirt dress is just an odd combination that doesn't work.  On a positive note, I do love the shoes.

The stars out that night were also making some strange fashion choices:

Chloe Sevigny came in her own design, Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony.  I really like the skirt and the shoes, but the leather top is a strange choice to pair with them.

Jessica Alba in Diane Von Furstenberg.  Her hair and makeup are really pretty, but the orange and purple dress is just not a cute execution of the colour block trend.

Kerry Washington, unlike Jessica Alba, is not pregnant but this Calvin Klein dress would make one think that she is.    I do really like the shoes.

Marcia Cross in a Pamella Roland jumpsuit.  She definitely has the figure and the height to pull off a jumpsuit but I would have liked this look a lot better if it wasn't all sequins.  It makes her look like a showgirl which she is not.
